We offer a lot of sedation options in our office. It helps relieve some of the anxiety of the patient. It just depends on the comfort level of the patient and what they're use to in the dental chair. For example, we offer laughing gas or nitrous oxide and also some oral sedation in the form of a pill or a liquid that the patient can take one hour prior to their procedure that helps relax the patient quite significantly. For most patients, that works out really, really well. For higher levels of sedation, we also offer IV sedation and general anesthesia also provided by a anesthesiologist that comes and monitors the patients during our longer procedures. I think it's a very safe form of leaving their anxiety because they have an anesthesiologist that is solely there to monitor their vital signs and their oxygen levels and gives them a peace of mind that the dentist can proceed with their work and not have to worry about sedating the patient or dedicating part of their time or focus in that aspect.
Here at Jovan Prosthodontics, Round Rock, TX dentist Dr. Ace offers several dental sedation options, allowing each patient to find the best solution to their dental anxiety, big or small. Dental anxiety can manifest in different forms, and we believe you deserve personalized treatment in relieving it.
If your anxiety is relatively mild, nitrous oxide (more commonly known as “laughing gas”) may work best for you. After you begin breathing it in, you will feel calm and content. And, unlike other forms of sedation, the effects will wear off shortly after your procedure.
Maybe you have experienced subtle tension when you’ve visited dentists in the past. As frustrating as it was, you may have considered it unavoidable. Fortunately, even in the case of minor anxiety, Round Rock, TX dentist Dr. Ace can prescribe a pill before your procedure so you can feel relaxed before you even enter our office.
Perhaps your anxiety has grown severe enough to keep you from visiting a dentist altogether. If so, IV sedation, a deep form of dental sedation, may be for you. While you will remain conscious during your procedure, any tension will melt away as you fall into a dreamlike state. In addition to relaxing you during your visit, you will remember very little of your visit when you return home and will, in time, feel less dental anxiety at each visit.
Perhaps you’d rather not remember your experience at all. We can also offer the strongest form of dental sedation, general anesthesia, which will put you fully to sleep almost instantly. Because you will be unconscious, you will not recall even a glimpse of your procedure when you leave.
