If you have spent any amount of time on our website, you have probably noticed that, for all our talk of dental procedures, we do not refer to Dr. Ace as a dentist all the time. That is because he is a prosthodontist, and we are proud of that distinction!
Prosthodontists are specialists with expertise in the way the mouth looks and functions. They have special training in mouth reconstruction, which is why our Round Rock, TX office offers so many types of implants and dentures. It is what we do best!
In fact, prosthodontics is one of only nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. The expertise is right in the name: prostho comes from the Greek for “replacement” and -dontist refers to teeth.
When it comes to your smile, you want an expert. You want Jovan Prosthodontics.
Learn What Sets A Prosthodontist Apart
All prosthodontists are dentists, but not all dentists are prosthodontists.
Every dentist attends at least three years of an undergraduate degree. (Dr. Ace completed three degrees simultaneously – biology, chemistry, and psychology). Following this are four years of dental school.
Many dentists complete dental school, pass their board certification and are content to begin practicing with no further formal education.
Some will continue their education with mini-courses, conferences, or weekend seminars. This is where a lot of dentists learn about dental implants, dentures, and reconstructions.
In order to become a prosthodontist, however, a dentist must go on to complete three or four more years of schooling at an ADA-approved institution. Dr. Ace was one the few students accepted to the prestigious implants and aesthetics residency at Louisiana State University.
Know You Are Getting An Expert By Seeing A Prosthodontist
Because they deal with full mouth reconstruction and not just teeth and gums, prosthodontists also have a full knowledge of lips, jaw structure, and facial features. They know how these all interact to form your appearance.
Think of Dr. Ace as a dental architect, carpenter, and inspector.
- He will work with you and his team to create a comprehensive plan that considers the unique features of your mouth.
- He performs the actual procedures because he is the prosthodontist!
- He is involved in the entire process to make sure everything goes according to plan.
- If there are unexpected complications, Dr. Ace has the education and experience to deal with them.
Do Not Settle For A Cosmetic Dentist
We mentioned earlier that there are only nine specialties recognized by the ADA. Cosmetic dentistry is not one of them! But a prosthodontist is the ideal person to perform cosmetic dentistry.
Whether you are getting a full mouth reconstruction or a smile makeover, with Jovan Prosthodontics you can be sure you are working with an expert who understands how changes will affect your appearance.
It is one thing to get a set of veneers or dentures that fit your teeth. It is quite another to get one that fits with your entire face because it was customized to do so. Receiving highly specialized work from anyone but a specialist can leave you feeling sad from painful, frustrating, and inadequate treatment.
Another benefit of working with a prosthodontist is access to the latest high-tech equipment. Prosthodontists work closely with state-of-the-art labs to create appliances for their patients. We have a lab right in our office, so you get access to quality equipment and care under one roof. Often we can complete procedures in one day!
Dr. Ace is the only dentist in the world with a Master Certificate in Dental Technology. His dynamic and diverse education means that he understands the ins and outs of what each individual mouth needs to look its best.
Choose A Specialist For A Special Job
Your smile is the only one you’ve got. We can change and improve some features, but no one can change your face to fit a certain look. Veneers, implants, and dentures need to be highly customized not just to fit your mouth, but to fit with your cheeks, lips, jawbone, and face muscles.
Whether you need to restore one missing tooth or all of them, we have the staff and equipment to do it right the very first time.
